With increasing number of cores, there is ever increasing contention for shared resources like L3 cache and memory b/w.Cache and Memory b/w monitoring(CMT,MBM) allow measuring per process cache occupancy and mem b/w which helps achieve fairness and in guaranteeing key Quality of service(QOS) constraints.Vikas will discuss how CMT and MBM linux framework have evolved as big enterprise container and cloud users start using and contributing to the feature in the past year along with some enterprise container/cloud benchmark data.With very limited hardware RMIDs(resource monitoring IDs),the challenge has been to provide RMIDs for large number of threads.The talk will cover some major improvements to virtualize RMIDs to meet such demand,the scaling limitations of virtual RMIDs,performance monitoring issues users have faced, new MBM implementation upstreamed and some upcoming features.
